Today we completed the final leg to St. John’s via the Trans Canadian Highway. We dieseled-up shortly after leaving Terra Nova National Park and made good time until we came upon stopped traffic. For awhile it was stop-and-roll driving as we zipper-merged, rolled past a construction site, then unzipped and accelerated back up to highway speed. During the half-hour delay, we tuned in to a St. John’s radio station and spent much of the time laughing while listening to a show featuring Canadian stand-up comedians. Both the clouds and traffic steadily increased as we approached St. John’s. Strong winds began buffeting the RV during open terrain, fog came rolling in from the west, and it start misting. It was cloudy with a cool mist as we checked in and set up at site 120, loop 3, in Pippy Park Campground. Jane donned her rain gear and walked back to the check-in kiosk to get more info while I read my ebook. Based on Jane’s reconnaissance and the poor weather, we decided not to venture into St. John’s proper but to walk to a nearby pizza shop for dinner. The campground is near Memorial University of Newfoundland so pizza was only a rainy 30 minute walk away. The pizza tasted great but it was only a little shop attached to an Irving gas station. So, we sat on stools at a bar looking out the window at the gas pumps and observing all sorts, shapes and sizes of people coming and going during “rush hour”. On the return walk, Jane found a nice shortcut on a footpath through the forest to avoid some of the traffic noise. She didn’t even have her astrolabe with her. The rain intensity increased after we got back to the RV so we decided to hunker down. Jane had brought along a 12 pack of jigsaw puzzles (cheaper by the dozen) so we brought out a bottle of wine, tuned the TV into a local St. John’s station and cozily worked another puzzle at the dinette while the rain pattered on the RV roof. We also began planning tomorrow’s invasion of St. John’s.
No Missing Pieces! |
Why are there never any extra pieces?
That could be helpful.
