Riverview Reunion

Saturday, May 28, 2022

We got off to an early start departing Colorado Springs and heading up I-25 north to Loveland. We were in traffic most of the way traversing several metro areas but the density really increased as we drove through the Mile-High City, Denver (metro pop. ~ 3 million). After departing the interstate north of Denver, we headed west through Loveland and arrived at the Riverview RV Park around 11:30 am. After setting the RV up, we drove the toad back into Loveland and bought a few groceries at the local Safeway.

Riverview RV Park is a nice woodsy campground with relatively large sites, some along the banks of the Big Thompson River. Because it is Memorial Day weekend, there are many families with children camping here and a lot of outdoor activity. We’re parked here for the next six days, departing on Friday (June 3).

Around 2:30 pm, Jane’s oldest sister and her husband, Stephanie and John Clancy, came for a visit.  It’s been years since we’ve seen John but we saw Stephanie last March in Kane, PA, for memorial services for her and Jane’s mother, Helen Gregory. We had carried some of Helen’s possessions that Stephanie wanted from PA to NC and now to CO. Jane and Stephanie transferred  these items from the RV to the Clancy’s SUV. Stephanie & John also gave us some useful RV accessories that they no longer need, water hoses and a lengthy 30 amp extension cord, as well as containers of Steph’s favorite hummus and a mango peach salsa.

We sat in the RV and caught up on news. John entertained us with stories from his military service (1972-1979) and his truck driving career. Stephanie and Jane conspired on plans for Sunday and Monday.

After Steph and John departed, we had a light supper in the RV snd enjoyed beer from an Idaho Springs, CO, brewery, Tommyknocker. FYI, Tommyknockers were mischievous elves that Cornish miners brought with them from Cornwall to the gold mines of Colorado in the 1860s.
After supper, we enjoyed watching a special about tv programming in the 1970s and 1980s that brought back memories from our formative years.
