A heavy rainstorm woke us up last night but the skies had cleared off by morning. After breaking camp, we drove separately back to Nashville. Jane drove her car to Subway to buy some sandwiches for lunch while I attempted to fill up the diesel tank. The latter took quite awhile because two trucks were camped out at the only two diesel pumps in town. After 20 mintues or so, one truck departed. I dieseled-up the RV and then followed Jane down the road where we hitched up the car and continued on our way.
We drove another 240 miles southeast toward home starting south on I-65. We stopped at a rest stop to enjoy our sandwiches in the RV and Jane spotted, and became fascinated with, a large spider (body was 2” long) in the parking area. As we approached Louisville, we took a tolled bypass that was faster and considerably less crowded than going through the city. On this bypass, we crossed the Ohio River and entered the Bluegrass state, Kentucky.
We eventually merged with, and continued on I-64 E to Lexington where we ran into a lot of congestion and stopping due to a large road construction project. South of Lexington, the traffic thinned some and we continued on to our exit.
—— Along the Route ——
We checked in and set up at Site 3 in the Corbin/Laurel Lake KOA Journey. Leveling with our new system went perfectly even though we left the car hitched at this pull-through site. What a luxury! For supper, we enjoyed another homecooked meal by Jane with a delicious fruit and yogurt dessert while watching cable television. We are hunkered down now but are looking forward to tomorrow’s journey back into our home state where we’ll meet up with my sister and brother and where Zorro will rejoin us for the last leg of our homeward trip.
