Illinois to Indiana

Today we continued our homebound journey by driving from Knoxville (IL) to Nashville (IN). Our I-74 journey took us through Peoria, Bloomington and Champaign in Illinois. The heavy traffic and winds during much of the drive was tiring. As we were approaching Indianapolis, our GPS showed a huge delay ahead so we took an alternate route it suggested. This route led us through a suburban area with lots of traffic lights then eventually onto winding country roads. As we neared Nashville, we unexpectedly passed by a site I have heard a lot about, Bill Monroe’s Music Park & Campground where the renowned Bean Blossom Bluegrass Festival is held. Soon afterward, we were riding through Nashville, a cute touristy town that we decided would be worthwhile driving back to for dinner.

Finally, we completed the exhausting 310-mile trip and checked-in at the Brown County/Nashville KOA Holiday. We lost an hour of the day because we finally crossed back into EDT. After unhitching the car and moving the RV around on the uneven site, we decided that this was the perfect time to try out our new automatic levelers. But first, we had to install the plastic pads on the end of each leveler. Jane went around and ensured each pad was below its leveler as I pushed a button to lower them in sequence. Once we completed this one-time task, I mashed the “auto level” button and voila, the RV became perfectly level. The front passenger tire was a few inches off the ground but the other three tires were on the ground. And, the unit remained completely level as we let out the slide-out. In the past, the RV would tilt slightly out-of level on the suspension system as the slide-out went out. We were also impressed that the RV was stable and we didn’t feel the accustomed movement on the suspension as we moved about inside. So, we’re happy with our recent purchase; the only downside I see is the reduced clearance underneath the RV.

We drove back into Nashville and walked around the attractive town. Many of the shops and businesses had already closed for the day. We decided to eat dinner at the Out of the Ordinary Restaurant which proved to be a good choice. I ordered fettucini alfredo with shrimp that was excellent. Jane ordered grilled salmon that she enjoyed a lot especially after she spread some of my alfredo sauce on it. After dinner, we drove back to our campsite and holed up in the motorhome for the night.
