Forest City

Monday, June 3, 2024

Today was another travel day. We continued eastward on I-90 for another 150 miles. The winds had died down compared to yesterday, so the driving was noticeably easier and the fuel mileage was noticeably improved. Early in the day, we left South Dakota and entered Minnesota, a new state for John. We stopped at the Information Center and collected maps and brochures for the state. Jane perused this material as we continued our drive, starting to formulate ideas about what to do during our upcoming unplanned week.

We travelled across most of the southern width of Minnesota before turning south, and via a series of poor rural roads, proceeded to Forest City. When we crossed into Iowa (without a sign marking the stateline), we entered a new state for both of us.

Forest City is in Winnebago County, IA, and the birthplace of our Winnebago View motorhome. We will be leaving our RV at a nationally renowed Winnebago dealership here, Lichtsinn RV,  just a mile from the Winnebago facility for some repairs and improvements. We drove to Lichtsinn RV, checked in, and set up at a back-in electricity-only site in their parking lot. We spent the rest of the afternoon and evening there packing clothes and other items to transfer to the car tomorrow. Jane was able to finish planning  and making reservations for exploring parts of Minnesota during our upcoming RV-less week.
