This morning we lazed around the RV for awhile. I blogged and dealt with our insurance claim while Jane (hopefully) permanently fixed the sliding bathroom door by gluing the overhead track screws into place. They had been repeatedly falling out while driving making the door difficult or impossible to operate.
Late morning, we departed for Sedona. The 30-mile drive south on AZ-89A started with rolling hills covered with ponderosa pine. After awhile, we began a steep winding descent into Oak Creek Canyon. The descent and traveling through the canyon provided beautiful views of red rock formations contrasting with the clear blue sky and green forests. Along the route, there were lots of camping and lodging opportunities in this popular canyon.

We arrived in Sedona on the main drag and found a convenient parking spot ($4 for 2 hours). This small town is surrounded by beautiful red rock formations and was bustling with tourists. The main street is lined with numerous shoppes and restaurants of varying price ranges and quality. We walked around searching for a place to eat lunch and decided upon Open Range. Our table in this second-story restaurant offered wonderful views of the beautiful scenery. Our waiter, a guitar player, saw the Martin cap that I was wearing, struck up a conversation about music, and recommended that we visit the music museum in Phoenix. It sounded great, but we’ll have to save that one for another trip. After lunch, we walked a short distance before being lured into an ice cream shoppe. We purchased some ice cream and enjoyed eating it at an outdoor table where we could take in the wonderful weather, beautiful scenery, and tourist passerbys. After walking around Sedona some more, we returned to the car to return to Flagstaff.

Jane wanted to return via another route to see more of this area. So, we continued south on AZ-179 through more beautiful red rock formations. We then turned north on I-17 gaining elevation and rolling through more pondersoa pine stands.

Back in Flagstaff in the motorhome, Jane prepared to do laundry while I laid down for a nap. Three hours later, I woke up. Meanwhile, Jane had made several trips to the laundry room, washed, and dried all our dirty clothes. Because the dryers weren’t adequate, she had turned the RV, especially the cab area, into an improvished clothesline. We hung out in the RV for the rest of the evening. Jane went to bed early but because of my long nap, I didn’t turn in until midnight.
