Nancy & John Metzger visit the RV
|
We awoke yesterday (Saturday) morning around 4 am to thunder and torrential rains. No damage was inflicted, but our plans to bike the rails-to-trails path from Lantz Corners to Kinzua State Park were scuttled. After breakfast, Jane’s other sister, Nancy and her husband, John, dropped in for a visit. (All three of the Gregory sisters married a John, such impeccable taste!) Due to tight work schedules, they had driven from Ephrata to Du Bois Friday evening and the remaining hour and a quarter to the Spoonwood Inn in Kane on Saturday morning. Afterwards, we all went to Helen’s (Jane mother’s) apartment and visited with her and Steph before heading again to the Four Sons Restaurant for lunch.
Camp |
Family members converged on Kane for the weekend to remember and honor Jane’s great aunt, Anne O’Donnell, who passed away earlier this year. After lunch we went to the Oliver family camp. Although I had heard of “camp” for years this was my first visit. “Camp” turned out to be a nice A-frame cabin in the woods not far from Kane. We enjoyed a beer on the deck while reacquainting / meeting several Oliver family members. At 5 pm, several family members attended mass at Kane’s Catholic church, St. Callistus.
Anne had provided for a post-mortem family gathering at Pepe’s Pizzeria to begin at 6 pm. Jane, Nancy, John and I walked from Helen’s apartment and, before the gathering, stopped by Kane’s new brewery, Logyard, to sample the beers.
Kane’s New (only) Brewery |
A whole room was reserved at Pepe’s for the gathering. We mingled and I met lots of Jane’s relatives. Pitchers of beer and pizzas magically appeared and disappeared. Jane & I sat at a booth with Mary Anne and Bert Saul from NH. Coincidently, their son owns land in New Brunswick not far from our RV route and is also traveling to Nova Scotia.
Afterwards, we walked back to Helen’s apartment and spent time looking at and discussing family pictures. Nancy & John had collected photos and put them into a digital picture frame that periodically cycled through them. Jane & I wearily drove back to the RV around 10 pm for a restful night’s sleep.

Y'all are straight ramblin. Enjoying reading about your travels even though we missed that hard driving banjo at the gig. A really good crowd in the back today, a bunch of repeat customers- we played most of the usual and some new ones. Bill played with us. Stay safe and keep posting updates.
Chris
Glad to hear that the OSB gig went well. I'm sure Bill upped the ante. I miss playing with y'all but we're have a great time.
Glad Jane and you got to spend time with the family!
