Rainy Travels

Tioga Downs

I awoke around 6 am ready to roll but it was raining hard, so I went back to bed and then it was 8:00. After we showered, ate breakfast, got the RV ready and hitched the car, we left Lantz Corners (~11 am).

It was cloudy and rained most of the route as we travelled up to NY, across the Southern Tier and finally headed northeast to Clermont which is just west of the CT/Mass state lines. We covered 362 miles in 6.5 hours including two stops.

The second stop was for lunch. We pulled into a rest area (aka Text Stop in NY) and parked with the trucks. Jane reheated leftovers from a veggie stir-fry and added her secret sauce, so we enjoyed a wonderful lunch in the RV dinette. The rest area was across the road from Tioga Downs racetrack and we could see periodic harness races at the track from the RV.

Dining with the Big Boys

As we approached our destination, we drove through many luscious apple and cherry orchards in the Hudson Valley region and arrived at Hudson Valley Distillery around 6:30 pm. We had made reservations via Harvest Hosts and knew that the distillery would be closed and our the owner absent. We drove around the gravel parking lot until we found a level spot and set up for the evening. Too bad we won’t get to sample their products but we have a quiet and FREE spot to overnight in transit. It’s very peaceful and as I blog and sip my wine I’m soothed by the rain softly pattering on the RV roof. Goodnight.
