Fundy Fog

The Cape Enrage Lighthouse

Monday morning, we slept late, ate blueberry pie for breakfast, and then biked to the Fundy National Park visitors center. Using the park’s wi-fi, I called to get our phone data plan set up correctly for international calls & data. Jane called State Farm about the car. We had already received emails saying that they would cover the cost of repairing the damage to our Focus. The transmission failure was deemed “wear and tear” so was not under warranty but will not affect our insurance premiums. Doesn’t make sense to us that it wasn’t Ford’s responsibility but we’re glad that the cost will be covered. Meanwhile, through voice mail exchanges, we learned that the Ford dealer has ordered the parts and it will take a couple of days for them to arrive. With our business completed, we pedaled back to the RV for a lunch of lentil soup and blueberries.

A View of Cape Enrage

We decided to visit the Cape Enrage Lighthouse on the Bay of Fundy. So, we unhooked the RV and drove about 45 minutes along a coastal drive with wonderful views. Unfortunately, the cape was so fogged in that the normally spectacular views from the lighthouse area were greyed out. The lighthouse fog horn periodically bellowed out loud warnings in groups of three with two second intervals.

We walked around the site and eventually took some metal stairs down to the beach and watched two novices rappel down a sheer cliff side. By the time we ascended the stairs from the beach, the fog had lifted somewhat and the view improved. We looked out the RV windshield as we were about to depart and could see across the bay to the coast of Nova Scotia, our next destination.

Happy Hour!

We returned to Alma and after topping off the diesel tank, decided to stop by the Holy Whale Brewing Company housed in what looked like a former church building. Jane ordered a flight of samples and I had a stout. All were good. Jane also bought a souvenir t-shirt. After beers, we walked to Saprano’s [sic] and ate a veggie pizza. I suppose variety is the spice of life because it tasted especially good after all the seafood we have consumed lately. We returned to the campsite early to get ready for tomorrow’s expedition to  a new Canadian province.

  1. Glad to hear that the repairs will be covered! I agree that it sounds somewhat sketchy that Ford is avoiding culpability on this, that seems a bit extreme for wear-and-tear. I bet that Foghorn was LOUD, I've seen a few lighthouses, but haven't heard any of them run the horn. How's the temperature up there?
