On the Way to Meat Cove

Jane slept until 10:22 this morning! I enjoyed the free time to to continue reading my ebook, The Martian. We hurried to be out of our site by 11:00 and moved to another site at the same campground. We didn’t plug in but Jane made some delicious pecan pancakes (with maple syrup or blueberry jam).

Almost There!

After brunch, we headed out for the northeast tip of Cape Breton, Meat Cove.  Jane was excited about this scenic drive but had read that part of the road wasn’t paved. As we topped off the diesel tank, she anxiously asked the local attendant if we were crazy to take our rig along this route. He said there should be no problems and that only the last 7 km was dirt and even there the steep slopes were paved. He was right, the hardest part about driving was keeping my eyes on the road instead of the incredible scenery.  We mostly hugged the coastline and  were rewarded with one breathtaking view after another. The only building for visitors at our destination was the Meat Cove Chowder Hut. So, we had fish & chips and beer while sharing tales with a fellow RV couple and enjoying the fantastic Meat Cove views. We enjoyed the coastline beauty again on the return trip back to the campground where we spent a lazy afternoon. Early evening, we walked down to the campground headquarters for beer and freshly shucked oysters. Afterwards, I unsuccessfully tried to blog on the campground wi-fi while swatting away mosquitos, then we walked back to the RV.
We Are There!

As it became dark and the planets and stars slowly became visible, Jane and I laid down on the picnic table benches and beheld the wonders of our universe. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen so many stars and the Milky Way so bright. We also made the paradoxical observation that we could see a lot more stars by removing our glasses. I don’t understand the physics behind that phenomenon  but we both agreed that it made a marked difference. After further contemplation of the myriad stars and galaxies our our universe, we retired from a wonderful day.
