Cow Head 2 – Tempting Providence

The Cow Head Peninsula Lighthouse
Friday, August 23, 2019
This morning we slept late and had a delicious breakfeast of pecan pancakes with bakeapple sauce on it. We were the last RV to depart the campground but only had a couple of hours of driving before us. We continued driving south to Cow Head and after exploring there in our RV, drove to the Cow Head Peninsula hiking trail heads.
I embarked on the Lighthouse Trail while Jane remained in the RV catching up in her written journal. The trail was very good winding through spruce-fir forests and open meadows and offering cliffside views. Unfortunately, it started showering on and off during the hike so that the views were washed out. The cute lighthouse was small and nestled in the forest. It had been operated from 1909 to 1933 and was restored in 2002.
After hiking, we again checked into the Seabreeze B&B and RV Park, the first ones to arrive. Because of the rainy weather, we had lunch (leftover pizza) and relaxed during the afternoon reading, blogging and napping.
A Magical Newfie Creature
In the evening after a quick dinner, we took the RV back into town to see another play, this time presented in the Warehouse Theatre. The play, Tempting Providence, was about Nurse Myra Bennet (nee, Grimsley) whose house we had visited earlier in Daniel’s Harbor (see August 19th blog). The cast of four did an excellent job. The set consisted of a table, four chairs and several white tablecloths that they constantly rearranged while continuing dialogue, into a boat, cradle, garden plot, etc. The play emphasized the challenges that Nurse Bennet faced while simultaneously dealing with the stubborn cove people, who were ignorant of proper health care, and the isolated harsh winter conditions of the region We very much enjoyed the play but I felt that the script presented her as more severe in dealing with her new neighbors and patients than I had perceived from reading the information at her homestead.
After the play, we drove back to the RV site and set up in the dark. Similar to our last stay at the Seabreeze RV park, strong winds rocked the RV all night.
