Honoring of the Tioga County

Before checking out today, we hopped into the toad and drove to Leonard Harrison State Park so Jane could visit the lookouts that see had missed on her hike yesterday. The views were nicer this morning with the sun behind us rather that glaring into our eyes, as was the case yesterday, and fewer shadows were hiding the bottom of the gorge. We then hopped back into the car and drove to Colton Point State Park on the other (western) side of the gorge to enjoy views looking east. Jane remembered visiting this park as a child with her family on a day trip from Kane. We then hurried back to the campground and scurried around to break camp and set off before the check-out time (well, almost).
We took a most circuitous route from the canyon region to our campground near Ephrata, PA, probably involving more than 30 roads. However, it was a very scenic ride without too much traffic and only involved a short segment of interstate driving. For lunch, we pulled over to refuel and ate sardines from tins with crackers at our dinette while sitting in the parking area. Later, after we arrived at the Starlite Camping Resort, we quickly set up and relaxed for awhile.

Starting a little before six o’clock, we made the 20 minute drive down the mountain to visit Jane’s sister and husband, Nancy and John, in Ephrata. We were glad to see them for a second time on this trip. Both are unfortunate non-retirees and had worked all day so Nancy and Jane prepared salads and pasta for dinner. Nancy brought out a bottle of wine from Grandfather Mountain Winery to celebrate the occasion. They had purchased this bottle in 2015 while visiting us in our condo in Foscoe, NC. (The same day that I had almost knocked myself out by banging my head in an alcove at Linville Caverns.) As we toasted, I realized that indeed, the lives of the four of us have changed substantially (mostly for the good) over the last four years. After dinner we sat outside on their patio enjoying the cool evening and views of the rolling Lancaster County landscape. We talked until Jane and I decided it was time to head back to the RV and bed.

I think I see our house
Yeah, it's just down the road from the water tower!
