On this first day of the penultimate week of our RV adventure, we turned east toward home. We started heading south and after skirting around Denver, were eastbound on I-70. After about 4 hours on the road, we entered Kansas and shortly thereafter, we turned off the interstate, fueled up the RV for tomorrow’s leg, and pulled into Site 20 at the Goodland KOA. Today’s leg pushed the RV odometer just past 3,000 miles for the entire trip.
After hooking up the RV, we drove a short distance to the Goodland Welcome Center where three young ladies provided us with info about their town (no breweries, one almost got started last year). Behind the Welcome Center, the world’s largest easel towers 80 feet high in Goodland’s Pioneer Park East. The easel supports a giant reproduction of Vincent van Gogh’s Three Sunflowers in a Vase. The sunflower is the state flower of Kansas, and Goodland is noted for its sunflower production. While we were visiting, the winds were strong and I expected Aunt Em’s house to fly by any minute.
We were also attracted to another local oddity. An oversized grasshopper made from tractor parts stands along the highway about 4-5 miles outside of town.
After taking in the Goodland attractions, we went back through town and stocked up on food and supplies at Walmart. Back at the RV, Jane made a delicious bean and vegetable chili. We both enjoyed the home cooking for a change. We caught up on the news using the campground cable service and are looking forward to a quiet evening of playing games, reading and listening to podcasts.

I love the giant easel! Sunflowers are one of my favorite flowers. This sounds like an interesting place with or without beer! LF
