This morning, we departed our campsite along the Tennessee River and headed east out of Chattanooga. After awhile, we were traveling along familiar US 64 beside the Ocoee River as we had done outbound on the second travel day of this trip. We crossed into North Carolina before turning south toward Blairsville, GA. After about 10 more miles, we were checkeing in at Vogel State Park thankful that we had avoided any issues with our strapped-up awning. We set up our motorhome in a large woodsy site then ate a mid-afternoon lunch in our motorhome.
Vogel State Park is one of Georgia’s oldest and most popular state parks. The park surrounds Lake Trahlyta which was constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in the mid-1930s. Jane and I took a nice stroll around the lake. At the dam end, we followed a spur trail to Trahlyta Falls below the spillway. After completing the lake loop, we decided to play mini-golf: there were two courses that we played for the price of one. We then returned to our motorhome for dinner, games, and a peaceful evening in the woods of north Georgia.
